Volunteer Opportunity for Minnesota Stars Fans

New this year, the Dark Clouds are announcing a volunteer group: the Silver Lining. The Silver Lining will work on volunteer projects throughout the year, bringing Minnesota soccer fans an opportunity to donate their time and energy to local projects. We feel this aligns well with our tradition of donating the money we raise each year to charitable causes.

While we sort out the details for establishing the Silver Lining, we’d like to invite your participation in our inaugural event. We are partnering with Surly Brewing’s Surly Gives a Damn initiative on their Habitat for Humanity’s Brush with Kindness project scheduled for the week of May 22. Silver Lining participants are asked to work the day of Friday, May 25 from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Shifts are all day and participants are asked to work the entire shift. Click on the links for details on the project and on Surly Gives a Damn.

We need to get a list of names to Surly as quickly as possible. As of this writing we’ve got eight volunteers signed up and room for up to five more. If you’d like to help, please contact Rich (Rich@Dark-Clouds.com) of the Silver Lining and sign up for the event via Surly’s volunteer form here. On the form you’ll find that there are no slots available for Friday the 25th, so choose any other day and be sure to enter “SILVER LINING” in the questions and comments field. That will get you on the list for Friday and then Rich will be in touch with you.

While the details on the rest of the Silver Lining’s mission and operation are still in the works this is a tremendous opportunity for us to get started on the right foot.  Please help us make this a successful endeavor and sign up if you can. In addition to pride in having done a good deed, Surly Gives a Damn treats it’s volunteers to a free Surly as part of all events. You’ll also get a Surly Gives a Damn t-shirt!

Here are the details per Surly’s posting of the event:

This is one of our biggest projects to date and we will need all the help we can get.  The project is set for Tuesday, May 22nd-Friday, May 25th.  You can volunteer for one day or up to all four.  There are 25 openings each day.  Shifts are from 8:30 am – 4:00pm and we ask you work the full day.

Our project is a 1 1/2 story home in Brooklyn Center.  We will prep and paint the exterior of the home and attached garage.  We will also be repairing the deteriorated wood on the carport.

How are we going to work our after project beer you ask?  All volunteers for this project will come back to the brewery Friday, May 25th from 6:00-8:00pm and have a THANK YOU beer on us!
